#4 The Energy Needed for Essential Functions

Reducing belly fat through walking alone can be quite difficult. However, it is actually possible to burn fat.

The heart continues to beat and the lungs continue to breathe even while we are sleeping. All of these activities require energy.

The energy required to maintain these essential life functions is called the basal metabolic rate (BMR).

For most people, about 60–70% of the energy our body uses each day is required for essential functions such as breathing, circulation, and maintaining body temperature. Only about 20–30% is used for physical activity.
